Company History
In 1922, the Company began as a partnership between Henry L. Ebsary and man named Mr. Comer who was believed to be a Key West marine contractor. Their first job was the original City of Miami docks near the site of today's Bayside Marina. In 1924, the Comer-Ebsary partnership completed the foundation for the Second Avenue bridge over the Miami River.

Ebsary Foundation Company was formally incorporated in 1930 by brothers William H. and Henry L. (Lew) Ebsary with initial capitalization of $500. They continued to build marine projects examples of which are the bulkhead and seawall at Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale and the Coast Guard Base on Miami Beach (1931). In 1932, the Company completed the ramp for the amphibian seaplanes for Pan American airlines on Dinner Key in Coconut Grove, FL.

In 1940, Henry L. Ebsary passed the Company to two of his sons, William L.(Bill) Ebsary and Richard H. (Dick) Ebsary and in 1975, grandson of the original owner, Richard W. Ebsary became the current owner. Recently the 4th generation Ebsary, Scott Alfele became the vice president and secretary of the Company. Like their foundations, the Ebsary family roots go deep into south Florida business.

During World War II, the Company built the docks for Miami Ship Building Corp., a contractor building PT boats for the U.S. Navy. Occasionally, the Company raised an airplane from Biscayne Bay as student pilots from Opalocka Naval Air Station (north Dade County) were told, if they could not get their landing gear down, to land in the water which created less damage to the airplane. Also during this decade, the Company built the U.S. Coast Guard base on Miami Beach.

A major project of the early 1950's was the bridge on Broad Causeway. They also continued extending the seawall and bulkhead at Port Everglades and the Port of Miami. The 60's saw the Company building the Palm Bay Club marina and the Belcher Oil fuel docks on Fisher Island near the Port of Miami. The Company completed the bulkheading of Allison Island for St. Francis Hospital. The 1980's saw the Company construct a portion of the Metrorail Rapid Transit system and in the 1990's Ebsary Foundation Company continued as a leader in the heavy construction industry.

In 1975, the torch was passed from Dick Ebsary to his son Richard W. Ebsary and his cousin Bob Ebsary. Currently, Richard W. Ebsary is the sole stockholder and serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Company.

In the late 40's, the Company purchased land at 2154 NW North River Drive in Miami,FL where it is headquartered today. With a deep foundation in the Florida business community and a new generation ready to take over, Ebsary Foundation Company is poised for continued success in the 21st century.
